Navia Weekly Roundup (Oct 26 – 30, 2026)

Week in the Review
Indian markets bounced back sharply during the week, recovering most of the previous week’s losses as the Nifty reclaimed the 23,000 mark. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers, an in-line US Federal Reserve policy outcome, and a rupee recovery supported the rebound. However, markets remained volatile amid weak global cues, escalating Middle East tensions and elevated crude oil prices.
Indices Analysis
For the week, the Nifty 50 climbed 581.65 points, or 2.59%, to close at 23,053.10, while the BSE Sensex added 1,173.61 points, or 1.60%, to end at 74,459.53. The Bank Nifty rose 1.34% to 54,686.95 and the Fin Nifty gained 1.44% to 24,712.20. The broader market did even better, with the Nifty Midcap 100 up 2.7% and the Smallcap 100 up 4%, and BSE-listed market capitalisation swelled by more than ₹22 lakh crore. Friday brought a second straight session of gains, led by IT after Cognizant’s upbeat results, although the mid and small caps paused and India VIX ticked up about 2%.
Flows and policy did the lifting. Foreign institutional investors turned net buyers of ₹6,304.67 crore for the week, snapping nine consecutive weeks of selling, while domestic institutions added ₹3,109.79 crore, and the rupee held near 94.95 per dollar in a 94.90 to 95.37 range. On Wednesday the US Federal Reserve left its target range unchanged at 3.75% to 4% in a 10-2 vote, with two governors preferring a quarter-point hike; the statement said inflation “remains elevated” while activity is expanding strongly. Markets had priced a hold, so the in-line outcome removed an overhang even as the hawkish dissents kept the dollar bid.
The primary market delivered the week’s headline. Jio Platforms, the largest IPO in Indian history, listed at ₹1,358 on the NSE on Wednesday, a 21.36% premium to the ₹1,119 issue price after the ₹30,213 crore offer was subscribed 22.19 times, and closed its first day at ₹1,419 for a market value of about ₹13.05 lakh crore, pushing Reliance past the Tata Group as India’s most valuable conglomerate. After Friday’s close, Reliance reported a 40.64% jump in Q2 profit to ₹25,548 crore on a record oil-to-chemicals quarter. Crude stayed the chief worry, with Brent above $113 a barrel into Friday on Middle East tensions, which left Oil & Gas as the only sector in the red. Attention now turns to the Reliance reaction, the remaining Q2 results and three IPOs closing in the coming week.
