Securities Transaction Tax (STT)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p style=\"line-height:1.8;text-align:justify\">STT is a government tax charged only on the sell side, and it is usually the biggest F&amp;O charge. From 1 April 2026 it is 0.05% of turnover on futures and 0.15% of the premium on options, plus 0.15% on intrinsic value if an option is exercised.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-2-exchange-transaction-charges-6\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-cbb5438bbe8254bc0da58d269737bfc7\" style=\"color:#023368\"><strong>2. Exchange transaction charges<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p style=\"line-height:1.8;text-align:justify\">The exchange, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nseindia.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NSE<\/a>, BSE or MCX, charges a small fee on turnover, on both legs. On options it is charged on the premium and is higher than on futures, and the rate changes over time.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"aioseo-3-gst-at-18-8\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8e9059e81a3ae7ccef92453922ab1cf1\" style=\"color:#023368\"><strong>3. GST at 18%<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p style=\"line-height:1.8;text-align:justify\">Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 18% applies to the fee based charges: brokerage, exchange transaction charges, the SEBI turnover fee and clearing charges. SEBI turnover fee<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><p style=\"line-height:1.8;text-align:justify\">A small regulatory fee of \u20b910 per crore of turnover that funds SEBI\u2019s oversight of the market.
