Many large market participants look at VWAP to judge whether prices are&nbsp;relatively higher&nbsp;or lower compared to the day\u2019s average.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She continued, \u201cVWAP is calculated by multiplying price by volume for each candle, adding it up, and&nbsp;dividing by&nbsp;the total volume. This gives an average price level where most activity took place.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanjay nodded. \u201cSo VWAP shows a kind of average value for the day.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cExactly, when&nbsp;price&nbsp;is above VWAP, it is trading above the day\u2019s average. Like other band-based tools, <a href=\"https:\/\/navia.co.in\/blog\/pivot-points-and-vwap-essential-technical-tools-for-day-traders\/\" title=\"Pivot Points and VWAP: Essential Technical Tools for Day Traders\">VWAP<\/a> bands show how far price has moved away from the average.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She explained carefully. \u201cVWAP bands are usually built using standard deviation.&nbsp;There\u2019s&nbsp;a band above VWAP and one below it, sometimes more than one level. When price moves far above the upper band, it suggests&nbsp;price&nbsp;may be stretched. When it moves far below the lower band, it may be stretched on the downside.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sanjay smiled. \u201cSo&nbsp;extremes become easier to spot.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYes, some traders wait for price to move too far away from VWAP and then watch how it behaves around those levels. This is called&nbsp;<strong>mean reversion<\/strong>.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added, \u201cVWAP can also act like a moving reference point. In some trending markets,&nbsp;price reacts&nbsp;around&nbsp;it.
